Edgar Davids has confirmed he will see out the remainder of his contract.
Edgar Davids has handed Tottenham a major boost by confirming he will see out the rest of his contract in North London.
The combative midfielder still has a year to run on his existing deal but had previously intimated that he would perhaps spurn another term in the capital.
Davids proved last season he still had the appetite for top class football with a series of impressive Premiership displays but Spurs boss Martin Jol had feared the 33-year-old would return to his homeland.
The Dutchman had been strongly linked with a move to former club Ajax, with whom he won a European Cup in the fledgling years of his career.
However, Jol has now confirmed that contrary to speculation Davids will see out the remainder of his contract, as Spurs gear up for a campaign that many predict will see them compete for honours.
''Ajax wanted him but he wanted to stay here,'' said Jol. ''He has got another year, he wants to be at Spurs.
''He likes London, there is no issue. He has the mentality we need.''
Meanwhile, speculation from White Hart Lane has suggested that should Wigan fail to lower their asking price for Pascal Chimbonda, the club will turn their attention elsewhere.
