Basturk hints at Hertha exit

Tottenham target Yildiray Basturk has said he is interested in a move to England.

Tottenham target Yildiray Basturk has admitted that a move to the Premiership would appeal to him.

Reports claimed last month that Tottenham had sent scouts to Germany to watch the Hertha Berlin playmaker in action.

Martin Jol is believed to be keen on reuniting striker Dimitar Berbatov with Basturk, following the two players' successful partnership at Bayer Leverkusen a few seasons ago.

And Basturk has now hinted for the first time that he may be ready to leave the Bundesliga.

"At 28 years of age it could be time to seek a fresh challenge elsewhere," said the Turkish international.

"I've always thought about playing abroad and the Premiership could certainly be interesting."

However, Tottenham will face stiff competition for his signature as Hertha coach Falko Gotz is determined to keep hold of one of his most prized assets.

"Here we can offer him a great city and a club with a great future with whom he has been so far entirely content," said Gotz

"Not only that but he is a team leader. And he knows that."
