Teemu Tainio is confident he can take over from Edgar Davids as the tough tackler in the Tottenham Hotspur team.
Dutch veteran Davids is being strongly linked with a summer move to Major League Soccer club FC Dallas.
Though Spurs boss Martin Jol is unaware of his compatriot's talks regarding a move, Davids is being tipped to follow David Beckham to MLS.
If the former Juventus enforcer does head to the United States, then current team-mate Tainio is eager to step into his shoes.
Tainio has started Spurs' last two games and the Finland international now feels he has the chance to establish himself at White Hart Lane.
He said: "If Edgar is leaving, I am happy to take on the mantle of being the tough tackler because that is my game.
"I like to be aggressive, so I hope I can help my team.
"I think my best position is in the middle and with the amount of games we are playing, I am getting my chance.
"We particularly need to be more aggressive in away matches because that is why we haven't been doing that well on the road."
