Roeder rubbishes Dyer link

Glenn Roeder says reports linking Kieron Dyer with Spurs are 'absolute nonsense'.

Glenn Roeder says reports linking Kieron Dyer with a move to Tottenham Hotspur are 'absolute nonsense'.

Speculation has claimed that Spurs are lining up a £5million summer bid to entice Dyer away from Newcastle United.

The midfielder has spent eight years at St James' Park, but has encountered injury problems in recent seasons.

He has been restricted to just 19 Premiership appearances this term, but Roeder is not looking to ship the England international out of the club.

Roeder rubbished the link to Spurs and is adamant that the former Ipswich Town ace has a key role to play on Tyneside.

"It's absolute nonsense about Spurs, and why, after spending so much time in getting Kieron Dyer back into business with us, should we consider selling him?" said Roeder.

"The only concern I have about Kieron is that he plays a bit part in our last three matches."

Spurs stumped up £7million to sign Jermaine Jenas from Newcastle in 2005, but any move for Dyer appears to be a non-starter.
