Harry Redknapp admits that he would not take on the England job if his son and closest confidant Jamie did not approve.
Redknapp junior is very close to his father and has already admitted that it is not certain whether he would leave Tottenham for the England post.
The Spurs boss now admits that he would need to speak to his son before accepting any role.
"I speak to Jamie more than anybody," he said.
"I'd speak to him about it for sure - he's one I'd stand on more than anyone."
Redknapp, though, insists he is strong enough to take on the England job and any flack that would come with it.
"It goes with the job," said the 64-year-old.
"There have been some good managers who have all had it. Apart from Terry Venables in Euro '96, everybody else has been slaughtered at times.
"If you lose a couple of games, it is like the world is coming to an end, isn't it? That's what you have to put up with.
"It is getting near the knuckle now, though. I heard the other day during a game on TV some people chanting about some player's wife.
"I couldn't believe what I was hearing.
"But that is what happens now - it is different to how it used to be."
No approach
But he insists that the FA have not yet made any approach to his chairman Daniel Levy or him.
"I have spoken to Daniel and he wants me to stay," Redknapp added.
"I haven't had an approach from anybody. They (the FA) may be thinking along completely different lines to what everyone else is thinking. They might want someone else."
Redknapp also ruled out the possibility of leaving Tottenham this season and underlined his determination to win some silverware, with the club in FA Cup action against Stevenage on Sunday.
"I'd love to win the FA Cup and, until somebody says 'do you want the England job', I've just got to keep Spurs playing well," he said.
"We grew up with the tradition of the FA Cup.
"It was the big day of the year, so it would be lovely to go Wembley with Tottenham."
