Tottenham secure late deal for France international

Tottenham Hotspur have beaten the deadline to sign goalkeeper Hugo Lloris from Lyon and provide competition for Brad Friedel. Spurs have been searching for a new keeper for much of the summer as they look to the long-term future, with current No.1 Friedel recently turning 41. Lloris was quickly identified as their main target and he was pictured arriving at the club's training ground earlier on Friday. A deal has now been finalised for the 25-year-old, who is France's first-choice keeper and regarded as one of the finest in the world. Lloris has spent his entire career to date in his homeland, having started out with Nice and then moving to Lyon in 2008. He will now embark on a new challenge at White Hart Lane, even if he faces a tough challenge to dislodge the reliable Friedel between the posts. Andre Villas-Boas has a wealth of options in goal, with Heurelho Gomes and Carlo Cudicini also experienced Premier League performers.

Prove

Lloris thinks that he has joined a club that is capable of qualifying for next year's Champions League. "I am here because I believe in Tottenham," the goalkeeper told Spurs TV Online. "I think everything is OK for the future of Tottenham. They have great team, great players, and a great coach so everything is all right, I think, to win a place in the Champions League next year. "Now we have to prove that on the pitch and I am ready to give it my all for the club and for the fans."
