Villas-Boas reckons Spurs have been landed with "the biggest team" of the 16 remaining in this season's Europa League.
But Tottenham go into the first leg at White Hart Lane with just one defeat in 16 games and fresh from Sunday's derby win over Arsenal.
And the manager said: "The match comes at a good time for us. It's a big game, and an important week for the club. We've had some big games recently and we want to continue doing well.
"We will treat it seriously as we have done before. We probably face the biggest team involved in the last 16."
Inter have shed experienced players such as Thiago Motta, Lucio, Maicon and Wesley Sneijder in the past 18 months and are 12 points off the pace in Serie A.
"Inter are rebuilding their squad," Villas-Boas said: "They have invested in young players and are a club in change, but they're involved in three competitions. The Europa League means a lot to them as it does to us.
"Inter are very experienced in Europe. We need to be aware of their strengths and they will need to be aware of ours.
"We don't want to concede, we want to avoid that and take an advantage to Milan. We want to be as good as we have been. The players are buzzing to be involved."
