Spurs remain fifth in the Premier League standings, but have now slipped six points adrift of the UEFA Champions League places.
With the four sides above them still of the opinion that they can land the top flight title, it would take an unexpected wobble for the door to be opened.
Sherwood appreciates as much, with Spurs now relying on others to offer a helping hand.
Such favours unlikely to be forthcoming, but the rookie boss at White Hart Lane is eager for his troops to dust themselves down and ensure that they are ready to pounce if an opportunity does arise.
Sherwood said after Sunday's Carrow Road setback: "You can't rely on other people to lose every time and us qualify for the Champions League. It's not going to happen.
"It looks a big gap and is a big blow to us. We have got to bounce back.
"We have got Dnipro in the second leg (of Europa League last 32 tie), then Cardiff at home. We are looking for a bounce back and we need characters in the dressing room to do that.
"This is the first major setback I have had and we are going to need to be spirited and show what we are made of. The result was very disappointing."
