The former Manchester United, Chelsea, Southampton, and Everton striker is out-of- contract at the end of the season but the 38-year-old looks ready to continue his successful playing career.
The Welshman was snapped up by Blackburn boss Graeme Souness last summer on a free transfer from The Toffees and the Scot sees no signs of his veteran hit-man slowing down.
Hughes performed brilliantly in Rovers' Worthington Cup victory over Tottenham in Cardiff last month.
Souness had nothing but praise for his squad's veteran member, saying: "I haven't spoken to Mark about his future yet, we'll talk at the end of the season.
"Mark is lucky because his genes have been kind to him and he's a naturally fit footballer.
"I've played and worked with some great footballers in my time, but none can match the desire and passion that Sparky still has.
"He's 38, but he's still prepared to give and take knocks. If he wants to play until he is 39 or 40, then I see no reason why not."
Souness and Hughes prepare for a relegation battle match on Wednesday, as they face Ipswich Town at Ewood Park, with The Tractor Boys only one point above third-from-bottom Rovers.
