The Welsh manager saw his national side earn a creditable draw with the Czech Republic on Wednesday night, but he may not be playing for Rovers next season.
His current deal with the club expires in the summer but boss Graeme Souness has said that the matter will not be discussed until the end of the season when the club's future will be known.
Hughes has impressed for Rovers in his few starts, and was a star in their Worthington Cup win over Spurs in February, and he has said that he is not yet ready to hang up his boots.
Souness has the utmost respect for the former Manchester United and Chelsea striker but may not be in a position to offer him an extension on his contract.
With the Welsh FA keen for him to take his coaching position full-time, Hughes now faces a dilemma over his future.
"The situation has not changed as far as I am concerned. I haven't yet spoken to Blackburn about it yet, but I am sure we will be talking," said Hughes.
Hughes has been a key part of Rovers' scrap against relegation but may have to consider whether he is willing to play in the lower leagues should he not be offered another deal with Blackburn.
