Gunes sweating over injured duo

TURKEY boss Senol Gunes is sweating over injury problems ahead of their quarter final clash with Senegal on Saturday.

Galatasaray midfielder Ergun Pembe and Blackburn Rovers defender Hakan Unsal continue to suffer from injury problems and are doubts for the match in Osaka.

Gunes said: "Ergun and Hakan Unsal's injury problems continue. We will monitor them again (before the match)."

Should Hakan Unsal be unavailable, Gunes could draft in experienced Fenerbahce midfielder Abdullah Ercan into the line-up, as the Turks aim for an unprecedented place in the semi-finals.

Gunes also acknowledged that Bruno Metsu's side have the advantage, having played their second round match against Sweden two days before Turkey played co-hosts Japan.

Gunes added: "Senegal has the advantage because they played their second round match two days before our match.

"They have had more time (off) than us."
