The former Liverpool man impressed as Rovers kept the most clean sheets in The Premiership, and was rewarded with a place in the PFA's representative side at the annual awards ceremony in Mayfair, London.
Planetfootball readers also obviously think highly of the shaven-headed shot-stopper, voting Friedel their Player of the Year for Blackburn.
9,141 votes were logged with Friedel scooping 5,154 of them.
Damien Duff was the only player to come anywhere close to matching the keeper's popularity, as the outstanding Irish winger also remains popular with the footballing public.
After a dazzling World Cup, the Eire ace maintained a high level of performance throughout the season as Graeme Souness's side reached the Worthington Cup semi-finals and qualified for a place in next season's Uefa Cup.
The remaining four candidates failed to garner too many votes, although Turkish international Tugay was the best of them, with David Dunn, Lucas Neill and Garry Flitcroft further behind in the pecking order.
1. Brad Friedel 56%
2. Damien Duff 34%
3. Tugay 5%
4. David Dunn 2.5%
5. Lucas Neill 2%
6. Garry Flitcroft 0.5%
The final list of 20 star men is now taking shape with Thierry Henry, Gareth Barry, Christophe Dugarry and Friedel now all through to the final poll.
