Brad Friedel believes Blackburn are paying the price for changing their squad in 2003.Brad Friedel believes the culling of the Blackburn squad in the summer of 2003 is now coming back to haunt Rovers.
Rovers are languishing at the wrong end of the Premiership table after a stuttering advent to the campaign and American keeper Friedel feels decisions made by former boss Graeme Souness and the Ewood Park paymasters are the reasons behind their current plight.
Friedel feels Souness, who walked out on Rovers for Newcastle in September, made too many changes in the summer of 2003.
"It is annoying because we had a squad full of internationals," Friedel told Liverpool's Magazine. "Then one summer we got rid of Hakan Sukur, Henning Berg, Martin Taylor, David Dunn, Damien Duff, John Curtis, Craig Hignett, Keith Gilliespie and Alan Mahon.
"In pre-season all those players were gone.
"I don't know why but that's how it happened. You will have to ask the board or the previous management."
