The American goalkeeper's present deal expires in 2006 but he is eager to stay at Ewood Park.
Friedel is approaching 200 appearances for Rovers after joining the club from Liverpool in November 2000.
The 33-year-old is firmly established as Blackburn's number one and has been enjoying life since Mark Hughes took over at Ewood Park.
Earlier this year, Friedel retired from international football in an effort to prolong his Premiership career and he is now hoping Blackburn will reward him with a contract extension.
"I've still got ambitions in The Premiership," said Friedel.
"If the club wants to talk about a new deal then I'd be happy to do so.
"We're going in the right direction under Mark Hughes."
