Ryan Nelsen has enjoyed rising to the challenge of playing in The Premiership.Blackburn Rovers defender Ryan Nelsen admits he has enjoyed rising to the challenge of playing in The Premiership.
The New Zealand international has cut an impressive figure for Rovers since moving to Ewood Park from DC United in January.
Nelsen has added steel to Blackburn's back-line and he has been relishing the chance to pit his wits against better players.
The centre half readily accepts he has moved up a notch since leaving Major League Soccer after initially finding it tough going upon his arrival.
"It is different to the MLS, of course, and it has not been easy," said Nelsen.
"It has been hard work but that's what I love about it, the step up to this level.
"The time on the ball, your decision-making, has to be so much quicker and if you make a mistake in The Premiership you get punished."
Nelsen will be tested twice in the coming weeks against Arsenal but he is not worried by the prospect of marking the likes of Thierry Henry and Dennis Bergkamp.
He continued: "Of course I have so much respect for them but I don't fear them, not at all.
"You want to win the game and if you go onto the pitch fearing them then you are already in deep trouble.
"As a professional you want to play against the best. They are superstars and have proven it at international level and in The Premiership and they are who you want to test yourself against."
