Rovers eye Serie A duo

Blackburn have confirmed an interest in defenders Marco Materazzi and Matteo Ferrari.

Blackburn have confirmed an interest in Internazionale defender Marco Materazzi and Roma stopper Matteo Ferrari but the signing of a new striker remains Rovers' priority.

Chairman John Williams confirmed Rovers have run the rule over Materazzi, with the Italian international set for talks over his future at the Giuseppe Meazza amid reported interest from Newcastle and Tottenham.

The former Everton defender could be keen on a return to The Premiership and Rovers have thrown their hat into the ring to land the uncompromising 32-year-old.

Ferrari, the Roma defender who spent an injury-hit spell on loan at Everton last term, is another confirmed target as Rovers seek central defensive cover ahead of an assault on Europe next season.

Rovers are mulling over loan moves for either player, although Williams admits the club's focus is on finding a strike partner for Craig Bellamy.

"Marco Materazzi and Matteo Ferrari are two of the names on the list," Williams told the Lancashire Evening Telegraph.

"We've had a look at Marco and we know all about him, while Matteo was well regarded before he came to Everton last season.

"But at the moment our main priority remains a striker and that's where we are channelling all our energies."

Roma striker Mido, who recently concluded a largely successful 18-month loan at Tottenham, is believed to head the list of Rovers' attacking targets.
