Ryan Nelsen has shed light on the intricate surgery needed to cure a hamstring problem that will lay the Blackburn defender low until Christmas.
The influential 28-year-old had been troubled by the complaint all summer long, but Rovers were unable to get to the bottom of the injury.
Nelsen went to see a specialist in Finland last month, and has since undergone surgery, with the Kiwi highlighting the specifics of his plight.
"My hamstring muscle had turned to fat through inactivity and dropped," said Nelsen.
"So once the doctor saw the problem he drilled a couple of holes in the bone in my backside and made three anchorage points.
"He pulled the hamstring straight up into the anchorage point where it is meant to be then tied all together. Then he sewed me back up!"
