Mark Hughes was full of praise for Shabani Nonda in Blackburn's win over Portsmouth, but has called for the striker to be more consistent.
The former Roma and Monaco man proved his quality with a brace against Pompey, although he spurned the chance to complete a hat-trick after seeing a second half penalty saved by David James.
Hughes was delighted with Nonda's performance and now wants to see him delivering consistently in order to relieve pressure on strike partner Benni McCarthy.
"I thought he was excellent," said Hughes. "He was unselfish and showed great awareness at times to make the right decisions.
"We've seen flashes of his qualities in training, but he hasn't produced it on the pitch as often as we'd hoped.
"He wasn't our penalty taker but we wanted to give him the opportunity to get a hat-trick, because we know what it would do for his confidence.
"There has been great onus on Benni to get us goals. Yet this shows we have great options in our striking department."
