Paul Ince believes Stephen Warnock warrants an England call-up and is urging Fabio Capello to hand him his second international cap.
The Blackburn left-back has been in fine form since taking on an unfamiliar midfield role in recent weeks in place of injured duo David Dunn and Steven Reid.
Ince has been impressed with how the 26-year-old has responded with some man of the match performances and the opening goal in the 3-2 defeat against Aston Villa.
The Rovers boss also believes the former Liverpool man outshone England midfielder Gareth Barry in the defeat at Villa Park.
"Stephen has been unbelievable for us recently. He has given me a massive dilemma now after doing so well in midfield," Ince told the Daily Express.
"I knew he could do that role, but he has been a total revelation.
"If I knew how good he was going to be in midfield then I might have been able to save myself a few quid in the transfer market.
"He can run, pass, tackle and shoot with both feet. He can do it all. I don't see why he can't become an international.
"Gareth Barry is a fantastic player, but Stephen outplayed him in midweek. He was by far the better player.
"There's no reason to me why he can't soon make the England squad."
Rovers, who travel to West Brom today, will be without Roque Santa Cruz and Andre Ooijer is doubtful for the Premiership clash and Ince has called for his side to stop letting sloppy goals in.
"We don't seem to be learning from what teams are doing to us," Ince added.
"We need to concentrate defensively all the time. That is something we have not been doing."
