Promising forward pens contract extension at Villa Park

England U21 international Nathan Delfouneso has signed a three-year contract extension at Aston Villa. The 20-year-old forward is a product of the Villa academy system and made his breakthrough into the reserve-team set-up as a 16-year-old in 2006. He penned his first professional contract in 2008 and made his senior bow as a 17-year-old in a Uefa Cup clash with FH Hafnarfjordar - becoming the youngest player to represent the club in European competition. Since then he has made more than 40 appearances for the club, taking in Premier League and domestic cup competition.

Experience

A loan spell at Burnley last season allowed him to gain more invaluable experience, as he saw out the 2010/11 campaign at Turf Moor. He then jetted off to Denmark for the European U21 Championship, but was unable to prevent England from slipping out of the competition at the group stage. He is now hoping to tie down a regular role at Villa Park under new boss Alex McLeish, with a long-term contract a considerable show of faith from the club in his undoubted talent. A statement released on Villa's official website read: "The club is pleased to confirm that Nathan Delfouneso has signed a new deal which will extend his stay until 2014."
