Former Blackburn defender makes White Hart Lane move
Tottenham have confirmed the signing of defender Ryan Nelsen following the cancellation of his contract with Blackburn Rovers.
The 34-year-old New Zealand international emerged as a surprise late target for Harry Redknapp on transfer deadline day.
The Spurs boss has moved to bolster his options at the back with William Gallas sidelined through injury and the loan departure of Sebastien Bassong to Wolves.
Blackburn agreed to release the experienced centre-back, enabling him to make the move to White Hart Lane despite the transfer window having closed at 11pm on Tuesday night.
Delighted
Nelsen will now battle it out for a first-team spot in North London with Ledley King, Younes Kaboul and Michael Dawson.
A statement on the club's official website read: "We are delighted to announce the signing of defender Ryan Nelsen.
"The New Zealand international joins us from Blackburn Rovers where he spent seven years and made over 200 appearances."
Nelsen could make his debut for Spurs in Monday's Premier League clash with Liverpool at Anfield, live on Sky Sports HD1.
