Oldham Athletic winger Chris Taylor believes there are positives to take from what has been an inconsistent season for the club.
The League One outfit had hopes of mounting a promotion push this term, but mixed results and injuries to crucial players have seen their hopes of a top-six finish all but evaporate.
The Latics are 13 points adrift of the play-off places with eight games to go after Tuesday's home defeat by Leyton Orient and missed out on a trip to Wembley in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy after losing to eventual winners Chesterfield.
However, the locally-born Taylor believes that there is still plenty to look forward to for Oldham in the next six weeks.
Frustrating
"It has been a little frustrating this season, but we did do very well in the cup competitions," Taylor told
Sky Sports.
"It was a shame that we didn't get to Wembley, but we didn't take our chances or create enough of them to earn our place in the final.
"In the league we would like to be higher, but we haven't been ruthless enough when on top in games and also too inconsistent.
"You've got to take the positives though and we've had some great performances and games along the way this season.
"The gap is probably too big now, not that it is impossible, but it might be a little too much to ask.
"Obviously, you never know and we won't give up till it's mathematically impossible, but to build up expectations of a top-six finish now would be a little over ambitious.
"We've got first (Charlton) and second (Sheffield Wednesday) over the Easter weekend, with the trip to Sheffield Wednesday live on Sky Sports, so they are games that everybody will be looking forward to in front of big crowds.
"We won't be taking our foot off the gas by any means because we still want to finish as high as possible in the table."
