Ipswich face competition in fight to sign Watford keeper

Sky Sports understands Blackburn Rovers are ready to hijack Ipswich Town's bid to sign Watford goalkeeper Scott Loach. Ipswich have been given permission to hold talks with Loach after agreeing a deal with Championship rivals Watford for the former England Under 21 international. Hornets boss Gianfranco Zola has described the potential move to Portman Road as a 'good opportunity' for Loach and has been linked with Manuel Almunia and Carlo Cudicini as possible replacements. However, Ipswich appear likely to face late competition for the keeper after Blackburn made an enquiry after learning of his availability. Rovers are now ready to make a firm bid for Loach as manager Steve Kean tries to build a squad capable of securing an immediate return to the Premier League. If Kean can win the race to capture Loach, it could lead to renewed speculation over the future of last season's No.1 Paul Robinson, who was recently linked with a move to Turkish side Besiktas.
