A round-up of Saturday's Sky Bet Championship action

Matt Ritchie fired a second-half double as Newcastle climbed back to the top of the Sky Bet Championship table thanks to a 4-0 home win against Rotherham on Saturday.

Daryl Murphy put the hosts in front in first-half stoppage time, turning and firing into the net after a first-time cross from DeAndre Yedlin, who latched onto Jonjo Shelvey's fine long pass.

Just after the break, winger Ritchie put Newcastle 2-0 up from close range after Yoan Gouffran's shot had been saved, and Ayoze Perez put Rafael Benitez's side out of sight in the 59th minute, heading home at the near post from a Yedlin cross.

Ritchie then bagged his second to complete the scoring, shooting home left-footed after being played in by Shelvey.

The Magpies leapfrogged back into pole position, one point above Brighton, who beat Sheffield Wednesday 2-1 at the Amex Stadium on Friday night.

Chelsea loanee Izzy Brown was the star of the show as Huddersfield returned to winning ways with a 2-0 victory at home to Ipswich.

Brown will be with Huddersfield for the rest of the season and the England U20 player opened the scoring with a brilliant individual effort just before half-time, running from just inside the Ipswich half to the edge of the area before picking out the corner of the net with a curling shot.

Christopher Schindler then added another in the second half, firing home on the rebound, to complete a miserable week for Ipswich, who suffered a shock FA Cup loss to National League side Lincoln on Tuesday.

In the evening kick-off, Leeds suffered their first defeat in eight games as Barnsley came from behind to earn a 3-2 victory in a thrilling Yorkshire derby at Oakwell.

Leading scorer Chris Wood put Leeds in front after 18 minutes, before a well-taken header from Tom Bradshaw and a superb Ryan Kent strike either side of half-time turned the match on its head.

A sublime free-kick from Aston Villa target Conor Hourihane on 54 minutes put further daylight between the Tykes and the visitors, who struggled to create any other openings.

Wood earned a controversial penalty, which he converted after 67 minutes, but the hosts held on for a deserved win, propelling themselves up to eighth, while Leeds remain fourth.

Ben Osborn produced a brilliant goal as Nottingham Forest defeated Bristol City 1-0 at the City Ground to end an eight game winless run.

The goal meant Gary Brazil made a winning start to his second spell as caretaker boss while the struggling Robins have now lost eight league games in a row.

There were protests prior to kick-off as hundreds of Forest fans gathered to call for Fawaz Al Hasawi to sell the club, following the recent collapse of a takeover bid by an American consortium.

But the home fans were celebrating at the end after Osborn flicked up a 67th-minute free-kick and then unleashed a dipping volley to secure the three points.
