Ross McCormack is off to Australia after sealing a loan move from Aston Villa to Melbourne City, subject to a medical.

The 31-year-old forward joined Villa from Fulham for £12m in August 2016 and has scored three goals in 22 games.

McCormack was loaned to Nottingham Forest last season after being dropped from the Villa squad by Steve Bruce with the Villa boss saying the Scottish striker had been missing training.

He returned to Villa Park during the summer and made two appearances from the bench in the EFL Cup.

Melbourne City are managed by former Manchester United U21 boss Warren Joyce. They kick off their A-League campaign against Brisbane Roar on October 6.

Joyce said: "We believe he can provide an avenue and a strong attacking option for us.

"I'm sure the fans will be excited by Ross' potential and we hope to get him right and available as soon as possible."

McCormack, capped 13 times by Scotland, will join the Australian club as an injury replacement for Uruguayan striker Bruno Fornaroli.

"I'm here to do a job for the team, support my team-mates, work hard for the manager and represent the club in the right manner," he said.

"Hopefully I can show the fans what I can offer the team and I'm very excited about being able to represent this city and its fans at a great club."
