The former De Graafschap man gets his chance between the sticks with number one Peter Enckelman suspended, following his sending off against Southampton.
James Beattie converted the penalty past Postma, but the Dutchman had precious else to do in the 1-0 defeat.
"I want to grab my chance and I am really not under Enckelman," stated Postma.
"Before this, I gave myself half a year to grow to this level.
"At the moment, I feel in training and in matches with the reserves that I am ready for it.
"Why shouldn't I rise to first-choice goalkeeper?
"That's just my goal.
"I did not move here to play as the reserve goalie.
"If I have to wait too long, I don't deserve to stay here."
The giant shot-stopper is confident he has already made progress since joining Villa during the close season.
"After four months, I can say I have become a better goalkeeper," he told Voetbal International.
"It would be fantastic if I could play for a long period in the first team.
"When you can hold your own in The Premiership, you are a world class goalkeeper.
"That most of the goalkeepers are internationals for their country proves it."
