The deal is subject to a routine medical that Sorensen will complete on Friday to seal his protracted move from the Stadium of Light.
The Danish shot-stopper has been on the verge of a move to Villa Park for some time but the deal has stuttered on the financial aspect of the move.
A fee of around £2.25 million was agreed at the end of last month for Sorensen, but he seemed reluctant to move to the Midlands.
Reports that he was holding out for a larger financial settlement from the Black Cats were blasted by his agent Paul Stretford, who insisted that he had a pay-off written into his contract.
The two parties appear to have come to an agreement as Sorensen has penned a three-year deal with David O'Leary's side.
O'Leary turned to Sorensen after he failed with a raid on his former club Leeds United for Paul Robinson.
He now believes that with Sorensen and Peter Enckelman he has a strong goalkeeping department at his disposal.
