The defender clashed on two occasions with the Real Madrid star - once after Beckham missed a penalty in the first half and again, when the duo were heading towards the tunnel for half time of the 0-0 draw between Turkey and England in Istanbul.
Gregory, who signed Alpay for Villa from Fenerbahce three years ago, believes the player was wrong to react the way he did and that a formal apology is needed from him.
"Alpay was a fantastic player and a perfect professional when he played for me, but I cannot condone what he did at the weekend," Gregory told The Telegraph.
"His actions were totally inappropriate. A lot of it was heat-of-the-moment stuff because it was a huge match and he is a very passionate man. But he went too far.
"My advice to him now would be to apologise to David, David's family and the whole England team.
"He should also make an apology to the Turkey fans because I don't think they will like what he did, either."
Since the duo clashed on Saturday, Alpay has instead pinned the blame on Beckham and hopes the fracas will not ruin his future in The Premiership.
