Aston Villa's Thomas Hitzlsperger will be out for the busy festive period.Aston Villa have been rocked by the news that Germany international Thomas Hitzlsperger will be out for the busy festive period.
The midfielder had hoped to make a playing comeback from the thigh injury that has kept him out for the last month, but Villa boss David O'Leary confessed that an early return is not on the cards.
"It's not looking good for Thomas at the moment and we expect him to be out for another few weeks," said O'Leary.
"The injury has not responded as we would have liked and he is definitely going to be missing for all of the festive period.
"It is a blow to us because, when you are playing so many games in such a short period, you need as many players as possible to be available."
O'Leary also insisted that he expects Hitzlsperger, nicknamed 'Der Hammer', to seal a new deal to remain at Villa Park.
"The message that was coming from Thomas's agent was that he wanted my future sorted out before talks began with the club over a new contract," added the Villa boss.
"Now that has happened, hopefully things will get moving."
