The German international is yet to decide on whether to sign a new deal - with a host of clubs from The Premiership and Die Bundesliga said to be interested.
"The contract to get tied up now is the one of Hitzlsperger," said O'Leary.
"That runs out in the summer, I'm not concerned, but you still want it done."
Fellow midfielders Lee Hendrie and Steven Davis are also in talks over new deals.
Hendrie wanted a two-year extension, but Villa are only willing to offer him a 12-month deal.
"Lee has been offered a good contract. Now it's down to him. I totally support what the club has offered him," O'Leary said.
"The ball is in his court. I think an extra year means he has got two-and-a-half years to run. I don't think there will be any change on that part.
"The club have offered him a contract they believe is right and it won't change. Lee is looking for longer - but if he is doing well at the end of that, the club will reward him."
Davis is delighted with his current form, which has seen him get an extended run in the first team this season.
"I couldn't have dreamed for things to go as well as they have," said Davis.
"The manager said he has been pleased."
