West Ham have been handed a £350,000 windfall from Aston Villa.West Ham have been handed a £350,000 windfall following Liam Ridgewell's 50th appearance for Aston Villa.
The young central defender has established himself in David O'Leary's first team due to injuries to several of Villa's regular starters.
When the player initially swapped Upton Park for Villa Park as a 16-year-old Villa were ordered to pay £50,000 - with West Ham also entitled to 15 percent of any future transfer fee.
Ridgewell has recently put pen-to-paper on a three-year deal, so it would appear West Ham will have to content themselves with the £400,000 already received, for the moment at least.
Meanwhile, O'Leary is expected to step-up his search for defensive cover as Olof Mellberg, Gary Cahill and Martin Laursen are all currently sidelined.
