Mathieu Berson will not know where his future lies until a new Aston Villa boss is named.
Mathieu Berson will not discover where his future lies until a new Aston Villa manager is appointed.
The Frenchman arrived at Villa Park in 2004 but failed to settle and was sent out on loan to Auxerre for all of last season.
David O'Leary had been expected to sell Berson to raise money for new signings, but his departure has cast doubts on the 26-year-old's future.
The midfielder has now been told to stay put while a new coach is selected, to see whether or not he figures in the club's plans for this season.
"It is not an easy situation for Mathieu because this is his life," said agent Olivier Jounneaux.
"Knowing that, for the moment he might not play for the club but, at the same time, they do not want him to go is not a good situation.
"He has always done his best and never complained. Whenever he has played, he has played quite well and he has two years left on his contract."
Martin O'Neill has been heavily linked with the vacant manager's role at Villa but, with no appointment expected imminently, Berson must endure a frustrating wait.
