Hertha Berlin have signed Christian Gimenez from Marseille, despite reported late interest from Aston Villa and Celtic.
Gimenez struggled to make an impact in Ligue 1 last season, having previously proven to be a prolific scorer in the Swiss league with Basel.
The Argentine had been in negotiations with Hertha for the past few weeks and a deal was finalised on Friday.
He has joined the Bundesliga side on an initial season-long loan with the option of a permanent two-year contract.
The 31-year-old was delighted to move to the German capital and is looking to be a success at Hertha.
"Today is a beautiful day for me," Gimenez told the club's official website. "Hertha is a super club.
"I must thank Mr Hoeness and Falko Gotz, because they trust me so much. I would like to play here as well as I did in Basel."
Reports had suggested that Scottish champions Celtic and Premiership outfit Villa were also keen on Gimenez.
But the two British clubs have left their interest too late after Gimenez committed himself to Hertha Berlin.
