Aston Villa are chasing a new keeper following the injury to Stuart Taylor.
Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill is in the market for a new keeper after the club confirmed Stuart Taylor has been forced to go in for a knee operation.
Taylor stepped into the breach following an injury to number one Thomas Sorensen in November, but he too succumbed at Sheffield United on Monday.
Taylor looked extremely uncomfortable in the closing stages at Bramall Lane and the club's medical team confirmed surgery was the best course of action.
Villa have not yet confirmed how long Taylor will be sidelined for, but the Premier League have granted the club permission to bring in a keeper on an emergency loan.
The setback has come as a real blow to Taylor, who had held hopes of securing a long run in the team.
"I'm absolutely gutted, there's no other word for it," Taylor told the club's website. "I can't believe this has happened just as I was getting a run in the team.
"Thomas' injury meant I was getting a chance to prove myself for the first time, but it was obviously not meant to be. It's a real kick in the teeth.
"There's nothing I can do about it though. I just have to focus on getting back to full fitness as quickly as possible, then I can push Thomas for the shirt again."
