Thomas Sorensen has thanked the Villa fans for their response at Middlesbrough.
Thomas Sorensen admits he was pleased with the response of the Aston Villa supporters following his gaffe at Middlesbrough.
Sorensen appeared to catch Fabio Rochemback's free-kick but let the ball squirm out of his grasp and over the goalline.
But Sorensen, who has just over 12 months remaining on his current contract and has yet to open talks on a new deal, was uplifted by the positive reaction of the travelling fans.
He feels their support was recognition of a largely consistent four years at Villa.
"It was nice to hear the fans chanting my name after I made the mistake," he said in The Daily Telegraph.
"They could have jeered me but instead they chanted my name, and I think that proves I'm doing a good job for the team."
Goals from Craig Gardner, Luke Moore and Stilian Petrov spared Sorensen's blushes and secured a 3-1 victory for Villa.
And Gardner, who is reported to be on the verge of a new deal, insists there is a positive atmosphere around Villa Park at present.
"I've been at Villa since I was 13," said Gardner, now 20.
"Martin O'Neill has made such a transformation at the club and the place is full of confidence at the moment."
