Aston Villa defender Martin Laursen is hoping to earn himself a new deal at Villa Park.
Laursen has seen his time at Villa blighted by a series of injuries with the Danish international making just 28 appearances since his arrival in 2004.
The former Milan star, who has impressed in pre-season, is entering the final year of his contract at Villa and he has held preliminary talks over a new deal with Martin O'Neill.
"I have this season left, I have talked with the manager but he only said he has been happy with me and that if I prove that all my injuries are passed then he will happily sign a new contract with me and that's fine for me," Laursen told skysports.com, whilst speaking at the Premier League's 'Creating Chances' launch.
"I am glad to stay at Aston Villa so we can definitely talk about that.
InjuriesLaursen is also hopeful that he has finally overcome his injury problems and that he can have an extended run in the side this season.
"I feel very good now, my knee was fine last season as well, I just had a few other problems, but touch wood everything is looking very good now," added Laursen.
Meanwhile, O'Neill has revealed he is close to agreeing a new deal with Craig Gardner.
O'Neill is keen to reward Gardner for his progress with a new contract and O'Neill is confident a deal will be agreed soon.
"I would hope to resolve a new contract with Craig," O'Neill told the Birmingham Mail.
"He's been really terrific and if he can continue in the same sort of form that he left last season, I'll be more than pleased."
