Aston Villa and Denmark defender Martin Laursen has announced his retirement from international football.
The veteran centre-back's career has been plagued by knee injuries and he has now taken the decision to reduce the number of games he plays in a season.
Villa captain Laursen, who is currently facing a two-month recovery from surgery on his right knee, is determined to focus on his club career and has, therefore, opted to hang up his international boots.
Laursen said: "My knees cannot cope with the fact that I play for Aston Villa and for the national team.
"In this situation, the only real solution is to be available for the club."
The 31-year-old, who first represented Denmark in 2000, made 53 appearances for his country.
