Starlet keen to build on Fulham match-winner

Aston Villa youngster Andreas Weimann is targeting more first-team games between now and the end of the season after scoring his first goal for the club against Fulham on Saturday. The 20-year-old came off the bench to snatch the only goal of the game two minutes into stoppage-time, earning the Midlands side their first home win since November. The youngster has found first-team opportunities limited this season and perhaps was only in contention thanks to a season-ending injury suffered by top scorer Darren Bent two weeks ago. Speaking after the game, Weimann immediately set his sights on earning more appearances in the first team and act as an inspiration for other young players in the Villa Park ranks. "It's brilliant for myself but I think for the team it's unbelievable because we have not won for a long time at home at Villa Park," he told Sky Sports.

Reaction

"You can see the fans' reaction too when I scored so I'm a happy man at present. "I have been waiting for a long time but now I've got my chance, I've scored my goal and hopefully I will get more chances between now and the end of the season. "I think it's good for the youth team because there are so many players from the youth squad coming up and this is encouragement that they can get there."
