Defender bids farewell to fans on Twitter

Carlos Cuellar appears to be preparing for life after Aston Villa after bidding farewell to supporters on Twitter following Sunday's final home game of the season. The Spaniard has been a consistent performer for the club since joining from Rangers in 2008 but he will be out of contract at the end of the season. Manager Alex McLeish has previously stated that talks over new deals will not take place until the end of the season, while he has not granted Cuellar as many first-team opportunities as the player would have liked. Villa effectively secured their Premier League survival by holding Tottenham to a 1-1 draw on Sunday and Cuellar was delighted with the result, as he thinks he will soon be looking for a new club. Cuellar tweeted: "Very happy because, after my last match at Villa Park, the team will stay one more year where it has to be. "Thank you all for your support both in the good and the bad moments through all these years!" In subsequent tweets he added: "Thank u very much for these fantastic 4 years has been an honor to be part of one of the biggest club, I will miss u forever in my heart.." and "Is one of the saddest days thank u to support me everyday I wish u all the best."
