Villa boss not sure when Albrighton will return to fitness

Paul Lambert has paid tribute to the performances of Karim El Ahmadi, Matt Lowton and Brett Holman following Aston Villa's friendly victory over Burton on Saturday. Villa came from behind to beat Burton 2-1 in the pre-season fixture as Holman netted the winner after Robbie Weir's opener had been cancelled out by a Marcus Holness own goal. Lambert was impressed by all three of his summer signings and was also thrilled with the way the fans got behind the team. "It was a great goal from Brett, it really was," he told the club's official website. "I thought Matty never broke sweat. He was excellent. You wouldn't think he's just come out of League One. His performance was really pleasing. He will do great for us. "And I thought Karim, everyone can see he's got quality in the middle of the park." On the vociferous support, Lambert added: "The fans were brilliant. I could see that, I could sense the passion they've got. Hopefully we can give them something back. We will certainly need them. "Today they were excellent. The following today was great. "It is a huge football club. I am under no illusions how big a job it is. With what's happened over the last few years we'll try to pick it up and the crowd will certainly get behind the team."

Blow

Stephen Ireland (toe), Fabian Delph (knee) and Marc Albrighton (foot) all missed the match at the Pirelli Stadium due to injury. While Lambert is not too concerned about Ireland and Delph, he admits the prognosis on Albrighton is not quite so clear. He added: "Stevie got a really bruised big toe on Thursday. That's why he missed that. "Fabian felt his knee a little bit. I don't think it's too much. "Marc is a little bit more difficult at the minute. He could be a little while which is a bit of a blow for us but we will have to wait and see."
