Lambert's young Villa squad have struggled in the Premier League this term and go into the clash with Sam Allardyce's side second bottom of the table.
When asked of the prospect of escaping relegation, the Scot said: "Have I a points target in mind? I know how many games we need to win and that's the thing we have to go and do.
"If we keep doing the things we are doing, we will win more than we don't.
"I would say we need to win five or six games. It depends because you don't know what other teams are going to do, but I don't concern myself with other teams.
"You've got to focus on your own team. You've got no influence or control over other results.
"We never speak about it (relegation) to be honest. I think that's because of the belief we will get out of it. Everyone is focused on getting out of it and we'll do that to the end.
"The spirit is good and that's testament to the players, even though we've had some heavy knocks. They've kept their heads up."
On a setback to long-term injury victim Richard Dunne, Lambert added: "Richard is seeing the surgeon again for a check-up and we just have to see what happens with that one.
"He's a long way off [returning]. He was doing all right and then had a setback.
"It's bad news because of the way he plays and his experience. But that's the nature of the game."
