Newcastle's January signings Jonjo Shelvey and Andros Townsend will continue to get the same basic wages even if they are relegated from the Premier League this season, Sky sources understand.
Shelvey joined from Swansea for a fee of around £12m on January 12, while Townsend completed his move from Tottenham 16 days later for a similar fee.
Newcastle are 18th in the Premier League, two points from safety, with 14 games to go, but the duo would not lose out financially if they were to drop into the Sky Bet Championship, it is understood.
Shelvey and Townsend played the whole of the Magpies' 3-0 defeat to Everton at Goodison Park on Wednesday night and could feature again on Saturday for the visit of Stoke to St James' Park.
