Brescia - no Pav offers

EXCLUSIVE
BRESCIA team manager and press officer Edoardo Piovani has dismissed suggestions that Pavel Srnicek is poised to join Newcastle.

The Czech keeper has been linked with a return to St James' Park, with question marks over Steve Harper's long-term future as back-up to Shay Given.

Srnicek, formerly with Sheffield Wednesday, was on the bench for the win at Venezia on Sunday, with Luca Castellazzi installed as first choice.

"I have read something about these rumours," Piovani told planetfootball.com.

"But we have not received any offers for Srnicek.

"The goalkeeper has a deal until the summer of 2003, and now we think only about the relegation battle.

"We cannot care about the transfer market now."

The 34-year-old made 97 Premiership appearances for The Magpies after signing from Banik Ostrava in 1991 for £350,000.

A popular keeper, he also played in England for Sheffield Wednesday.
