Although the Magpies chief has admitted he is particularly keen on an Italian centre back, Catalan sources claim the former Barca coach is looking to Camp Nou in an attempt to land Dutchman Reiziger in a loan deal.
The 29-year-old, capped over 50 times by his country, has previously expressed a desire to play in England, and was courted by Manchester United and Chelsea last season.
Barca are said to be contemplating the offer as they ponder their own transfer moves, with a defender also on Louis van Gaal's New Year shopping list, and there could be developments once the window re-opens on Wednesday.
Of course, Robson is also keen on a mystery Italian stopper, and a number of names have been forwarded as possible candidates.
Top of the list could be Cesare Natali of Atalanta.
The 23-year-old has come through the ranks, and also enjoyed a loan stint with Monza, attracting Robson's interest with some stylish performances this term.
Although there has been no contact yet between the two clubs, Natali could well be the man Robson has been referring to.
Paolo Negro, Fabio Galante, Gianluca Lamacchi and Marco Di Loreto have also been mentioned in the Italian media, as the Tynesiders compile a list of targets.
Nikos Dabizas failed to enhance his prospects of regaining a regular place in the starting line-up by rocketing a diving header past his own keeper Shay Given during the 2-1 defeat of Tottenham.
Titus Bramble has not looked the finished article since his move from Ipswich Town, leaving Robson to start this careful search for a new centre back.
