AHMED 'MIDO' HOSSAM`S agent has moved to play down talk of a summer switch to Newcastle United for the talented Egyptian international.
Reports from both England and Holland suggested Newcastle boss Sir Bobby Robson was plotting a summer raid on Ajax for the young striker.
The forward`s agent Christophe Henrotay has admitted to speaking to Robson about Mido, but feels a summer move to St James` Park would be unlikely.
"I don't think Newcastle are interested," Henrotay told planetfootball.com. "I have spoken to Charlie (Newcastle chief scout Woods) and they are not looking for a striker.
"Bobby Robson will be aware of lots of players but I spoke to Bobby and Charlie Woods and, at the moment, they are not interested.
"Charlie knows the player, but there is no interest at the moment."
Mido`s situation is still somewhat up in the air, as he is unlikely to return to Ajax from his loan spell at Celta Vigo due to his problems with ArenA chief Ronald Koeman.
Henrotay knows high-ranking Ajax officials would like the talented forward to return, but it could be difficult unless a solution can be found to his troubles with Koeman.
He continued: "It`s difficult to say what will happen in the summer because Leo Beenhakker from Ajax wants him to come back, but, if it is impossible because of what has happened with Mido and Mr Koeman, maybe they will have to look for another solution.
"He could stay with Vigo because the people there love him.
"He has proved he can score everywhere. He has scored in Holland and is now scoring in Spain."
Henrotay also stressed that Vigo have had no trouble from the supposed enfant terrible.
"Also, he has proved he is a good boy and not a troublemaker as people say," he added.
"Celta will probably try and keep him but it will come down to a decision between Ajax and the club that wants to take him.
"The championship in Spain does not finish until June and they still have to play Barcelona, Real Madrid, Deportivo and Sociedad. They are four big teams and Celta are fighting for a place in the Champions League.
"So it is too early to say what will happen."
Mido`s profile of a talented youngster would certainly fit into Newcastle`s policy of buying potential, but the signs are that Robson has other irons in the fire.
The striker produced a spirited display fro Egypt against France last week, and looked like the only player capable of upsetting Marcel Desailly on his record-breaking night.
His efforts for his country and in La Liga are likely to lead to a flood of offers in the post season.
