Ravenhill shone for the Third Division club's reserve team against their Magpies counterparts during a midweek tussle.
The 22-year-old curled home a superb goal for Rovers in the 3-1 defeat and is believed to have impressed Newcastle with his display.
The young midfielder has struggled to secure regular first team football with Dave Penney's side this season since Rovers' promotion back to The Football League.
Ravenhill has primarily been deployed as a substitute but, after parading his skills against Newcastle's second string, may have earned the chance to impress the Premiership giants at closer order.
Magpies manager Sir Bobby Robson is understood to have received favourable reports on Ravenhill and may offer the former Barnsley trainee a trial spell on Tyneside.
