The Wales international picked up a hamstring injury during the last round of the Uefa Cup against Norwegian side Valerenga last Wednesday night.
Bellamy was expected to be definitely ruled out for the first leg of their fourth round encounter at St James' Park on Thursday, but is now hoping to start.
The flying forward has missed a huge chunk of the season with a knee injury but says that he believes his injury problems are now behind him.
"To be honest, my comeback has gone better than expected and, as far as my knee is concerned, I feel great," said Bellamy.
"I wanted to make a difference straight away because I cannot handle 52,000 Geordies having a go at me because I'm not fit.
"I feel stronger now and that is important because the strength in your legs is where you get your pace from."
Darren Ambrose is also set to shake off injury to be available for Sir Bobby Robson on Thursday, while Kieron Dyer is a bigger doubt as he has not fully recovered from his hamstring problem.
