Rovers move for Magpie

Doncaster Rovers have taken Darlington target Lewis Guy on trial from Newcastle.

Doncaster Rovers have taken Darlington target Lewis Guy on trial from Newcastle United.

Darlington are hoping to sign the 19-year-old on loan from The Magpies for the rest of the season.

Quakers boss David Hodgson had confirmed on Thursday that he was awaiting a response from his Newcastle counterpart Graeme Souness regarding his interest in Guy.

But the League Two side now look set to miss out on Guy, after he linked up with Doncaster for a trial.

Guy will spend a fortnight training with the League One outfit in the hope of earning a switch to Belle Vue.

The teenage front man is under contract at St James' Park until the end of the season and will be looking to secure his future over the coming months.

He made his Newcastle debut in the Uefa Cup in December but it is unclear if he figures in Souness' long-term plans.

Meanwhile, Doncaster have allowed striker Andy Campbell to return to Cardiff City following a month-long loan spell in South Yorkshire.
