Les Bleus coach Raymond Domenech has been hit with the news that Monaco stopper Sebastien Squillaci has sustained an injury.
Newcastle man Boumsong is now expected to form the heart of the backline with Gael Givet, despite not appearing for Domenech in competitive fixtures to date.
Since arriving at St James' Park from Rangers in January, Boumsong has proved to be a key player for boss Graeme Souness in his side's recent renaissance.
Now the stopper will be hoping to make a similar impact on the international scene, although insisted that he had full faith in his international boss even if not selected.
"Even if I am not part of his first choice I trust Domenech," said Boumsong.
"We have always had regular talks, apart from our sporting relationship there is a human relationship and it is frank and honest, and it goes back before he was named as Les Bleus boss.
"Conscientiousness and work always pay off one day or another, and if the coach gives me an opportunity I hope to seize it."
