Hamburg's Bernd Hoffmann has launched an attack on Daniel van Buyten.
Hamburg chairman Bernd Hoffmann has launched a scathing attack on Newcastle United target Daniel van Buyten and told the Belgian defender to stop flirting with other clubs and honour his contract at the AOL-Arena.
The 27-year-old had recently bewildered the Hamburg board with positive comments about a possible transfer to Bayern Munich or Werder Bremen and Hoffman finally lost his temper after learning that the HSV skipper has opened talks with Newcastle United.
"Now it's really enough," fumed the Hamburg chief. "I don't want to read all the time about which club he finds interesting, it doesn't help him and it doesn't help the club. He has a contract with us until 2008 - end of discussion.".
Hamburg have invested heavily in the team in the past two years in order to lead the club back to former European glory- with Dutch star Rafael van der Vaart their latest high-profile arrival - and Hoffman feels that the club's ambitious plans are undermined by van Buyten's behaviour.
According to speculation in the German press, Newcastle are willing to spend é¼7.5 million in order to lure the former Marseille and Manchester City star to The Premiership, but given Hoffman's harsh words, The Magpies might be forced to step up their bid significantly if they really want to land their man.
